William and Kate's first year

In the two years since their fairytale wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have attended the Olympic games, cast a few spells on the Harry Potter film set, and visited the Solomon Islands. Take a look through their memorable two years of marriage.

Thousands of well-wishers from around the world flocked to London to witness the spectacle and pageantry of the royal wedding, and cheered on the radiant couple to share a second kiss.

Only days after returning from their honeymoon in May, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcome President Obama and First Lady Michelle at Buckingham Palace. It was Kate and William's first royal duty as a married couple, and gave the president's visit to the U.K. an extra dose of glamour. The public hungered for every glimpse of the newlyweds and Kate's dress by Reiss sold out within hours.

In their first public engagement as a married couple, William and Kate shine as they arrive at a gala charity dinner to raise money for children at Kensington Palace on June 9.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge meet with and hand out medals to members of an Irish Guards Regiment that recently returned from Afghanistan. It was Kate's first military role as a royal and in a navy dress with gold buttons, she certainly looked the part.

In July, William and Kate flew off on their first official overseas tour to Canada and California. Here, the Duchess, known as an accomplished athlete in her own right, looks on as her husband plays street hockey at the Somba K'e Civic Plaza in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

During their visit to Canada, William and Kate tour an area in Slave Lake, Alberta that was devastated by fire. The couple started off their tour in Ottawa, joining millions of Canadians marking the country's 144th birthday.

William and Kate get a 10-gallon welcome on their visit to the Calgary Stampede, during their tour of Canada in July. Like royal visitors before them, the couple were given the traditional hats, which symbolize its roots as a frontier city. "Canada has far surpassed all that we were promised. Our promise to Canada is that we shall return," William told the cheering crowds.

On the last stop of their North America tour, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dazzled Hollywood. At the BAFTA Brits to Watch gala they were joined by actors including Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez.

On the final day of their first overseas tour, William and Kate help pack care packages for military children at the Mission Serve: Hiring Our Heroes event in Culver City, Calif.

The newlyweds work together to create clay hand prints at L.A.'s Inner City Arts center on the last day of their tour. Kate has a strong interest in the arts, and is patron of an art therapy charity as well as the U.K.'s National Gallery.

William and Kate weren't the only royals to wed in 2011. In July, the newlyweds attended the wedding of William's first cousin, Zara Phillips, daughter of Princess Anne, who wed rugby player Mike Tindall on July 30 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Christmas is a family affair in the royal family, with everyone celebrating together at the queen's home in Sandringham. Here, William and Kate, together with Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Camilla, walk to Sandringham Church for the traditional Christmas Day service. But one absence marked the festivities - the Duke of Edinburgh spent the holidays in the hospital, recovering from heart surgery.

William and Kate meet Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark on Nov. 2, during a one-day visit on behalf of UNICEF. Wearing hardhats, the royals inspect a UNICEF warehouse in Copenhagen that stores emergency food and medical supplies for East Africa. While there, Kate refused a taste of a special high-protein peanut paste, prompting harried speculation that she was pregnant.

Decked out in their finest, William, Kate and Prince Harry attend The Sun Military Awards on Dec. 19, in London. Prince Harry has made no secret of his admiration for his new sister in-law, often calling her his sister.

On January 9, William and Kate arrive in the rain for the London premiere of the Steven Spielberg film "War Horse" in London, the night before Kate's 30th birthday. The duchess was reportedly moved to tears by the film, and was handed tissues by Spielberg's wife.

William and Kate take a walk on the beach in Wales, joined by their new cocker spaniel puppy, Lupo, just after Kate's 30th birthday in January. The pup was born to Kate's parents' dog and the newlyweds adopted him around Christmas.

William, left, prepares his first tasks of his six week deployment to the Falkland Islands in February. Known as Flt. Lt. Wales, William's duties included mountain rescue and providing cover to the aviation assets based on the islands.

On her Valentine's Day visit to Liverpool, Kate chats with a young girl at the Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The couple spent the holiday apart as William served in his first deployment to the Falkland Islands.

Queen Elizabeth II, together with her daughter-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, visit the upscale grocery and department store Fortnum & Mason in London on March 1. It was the first official visit the three generations made together, and cemented Kate's place at the heart of the royal family.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Queen Elizabeth II giggle as they watch a fashion show at De Montfort University in Leicester on March 8. The trip kicked off the queen's Diamond Jubilee tour of the U.K., celebrating her 60th year on the throne.

While her husband was away in the Falklands, Kate made her first official speech during a visit to The Treehouse Children's Hospice in March. The Duchess wrote the text herself, saying that she was "only sorry that William can't be here today; he would love it here."

William and Kate arrive for the British premiere of "African Cats" at the BFI Southbank in London on April 25.

Visitors to London, New York and Amsterdam can now pose with Kate and William, thanks to Madame Tussauds. The famed wax museum unveiled the newest additions to its royals displays on April 4. The wax couple measures the same height as the real royals and are featured wearing replicas of clothing they wore to events during their first year of marriage.
