"It is just the perfect medium to express my feelings and my vision on things," he says of photography. "You change the way you see reality with an object that is scientific and mechanical. It's fascinating."

"I grew up in the countryside surrounded by all different types of animals and when I was a child I used to spend time playing with them," Brunelli said.

"I think that is why I push the lens often to its closest point of focus, almost touching the subject and forcing flight or fight from the animal," he says of how his comfort around animals affects his images, "which is when I then record its reaction."

Cryptic cat

His moody photographs of animals have been exhibited around the world.
