Holmes stars in the 2011 thriller "The Son of No One" as the wife of a young cop (Channing Tatum) who is assigned to a precinct in the Queens neighborhood where he grew up. To provide for his wife and ailing daughter, he works hard to keep his life on track. But this life is threatened when a dark secret bubbles to the surface.

In 2008, Holmes starred along with John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson in a revival of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" on Broadway. She received acceptable, if not rave reviews.

Holmes slipped into a Commes des Garcons wedding dress for the August 2005 cover of W magazine. This was before a wedding date was set, of course, and before her tummy bump, the sign of a forthcoming TomKitten, started to show.

Holmes hitched a ride with Cruise for the L.A. premiere of "War of the Worlds." on June 27, 2005. Apparently, she can ride his tail ... anytime.

Before she became the truth that Tom Cruise couldn't handle, Holmes was engaged to actor Chris Klein, of "American Pie" fame. Klein has remained stoic throughout Holmes' Cruise Era, though he allowed that he wouldn't be sending the lucky couple a baby gift.

Holmes had clearly grown out of her adolescent phase by the time she appeared in 1999's "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" with Barry Watson. And no, Holmes was not the titillatingly named title character, though what private nicknames she might have, we can't say.

It all started back in 1998, when Katie Holmes, center right, was frustrated tomboy Joey to a brooding Dawson (James Van Der Beek, center left). She also got quality time with Pacey (Joshua Jackson, right) and even outpaced Michelle Williams' Jen for on-screen romance. Perhaps Tom Cruise was quietly tuning in back then, even if he was married to Nicole Kidman and Holmes was just 20.
