Seeing red: Stars in scarlet style

Red-hot celebrities strut down a catwalk on Feb. 9, 2011, at New York City's Lincoln Center for the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection show, where the stars wore red gowns by top designers to raises awareness for women and heart disease. The annual event comes on the eve of New York Fashion Week.

Actress Linda Gray wore a Pamella Roland dress. February is officially American Heart Month. The Women's Heart Foundation reports that 8.6 million people worldwide die from heart disease each year — a third of all deaths in women. The red dress has become a symbol for the struggle against the disease.

Dancer and actress Julianne Hough struts in a floor-length scarlet Swarovski dress that according to People.com took 150 hours to make and includes 10,000 crystals. She said it was the first time she'd ever walked on a catwalk for a runway show. "I’m a little nervous but I think I can do it," she said before the show.

Laila Ali presents a creation by A Pea in the Pod. She told Parade.com that she was "excited" to be the only pregnant woman walking down the catwalk -- and that she would be wearing Spanx. "I'm very happy to be a part of this event and help spread awareness," she said. Ali is due to give birth in April 2011 to her second child with husband Curtis Conway.

Brazilian model Camila Alves wore a dress by Kaufman Franco. She was cheered on by her boyfriend Matthew McConaughey, who was spotted himself wearing red on Tuesday during a morning jog in Malibu.

Katrina Bowden of "30 Rock" presents a creation by Oscar de la Renta. Red must be one of her favorite colors — she also wore a red evening gown at the 2011 Golden Globes.

Dita Von Teese, known as the "Queen of Burlesque," wears a red satin dress designed by Zac Posen that shows off her hourglass shape.

"Wild Things" actress Denise Richards lets her wild side loose on the catwalk in a Matthew Williamson dress.

Actress Dania Ramirez was outfitted in a Malandrino dress. Ramirez's career is about to become red-hot — she was recently cast as an angel in the pilot of the reboot of "Charlie's Angels."

Oprah's best friend Gayle King, wearing a Donna Karan dress, also joined the 22 stars in support of improving heart health. More than 8 million people in America are currently living with heart disease, according the Women's Heart Foundation.

"So You Think You Can Dance" host Cat Deeley shimmied down the catwalk in a dress designed by Alberta Ferretti.
