Penguin clean-up

Penguins covered in oil and in a distressed condition huddle together in the South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds, after they were recovered from Robben Island in Cape Town, South Africa, on September 3. Around twenty one penguins have been found covered in oil from a spillage from the stricken bulk carrier the Seli One. The birds will be cleaned and returned to the wild.

A panda cub, born July 29, 2012 is held up by staff after a routine veterinarian exam at the San Diego Zoo in California on August 30. While staff have not yet determined the sex, they were able to mesure the cub's weight (2.2 pounds). All indications show the cub appears to be developing normally according to zoo officials. This is the sixth giant panda born at the San Diego Zoo.
