Two-year-old elephant 'Iqhwa' gets its share of a fir tree at the 'Tiergarten Schoenbrunn' zoo in Vienna, Austria, January 8th. Every year the seasonal Christmas tree in front of the Schoenbrunn Palace - which has been a 18 meters fir tree in 2015 - is fed to the zoo's elephants.

A chameleon forest dragon is held by a zoo keeper during the annual stocktake photocall at Chester Zoo in Chester, north west England on January 5th. The annual stocktake takes over a week to complete, and is legally required as part of the zoos operating license. The data is used to help plan breeding programmes for endangered species ranging from red pandas to Sunda gharial crocodiles. Last years count found there were 12,518 animals from 463 different species.
