Here's yet another unexpected way to use your slow cooker: To make apple sauce! Throw all your ingredients in there and let it do its magic for a few hours. Just make sure you have the right apples — here's how to tell.

Ingredients

    • 8 apples, peeled, cored and chopped
    • 2 cinnamon sticks
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 pinch ground nutmeg

Preparation

1. In a slow cooker, add the chopped apples, cinnamon sticks, lemon juice, water, salt and ground nutmeg. Cook on high for 4 to 6 hours.

2. Mash with a potato masher. Serve warm or cold.
