Chef notes

It’s the time of year where coffee shops bring out their crave-worthy seasonal sips. Unfortunately, they come loaded with unnecessary calories (300 for a small!) and tons of sugar (upwards of 9 teaspoons). Try this easy peasy version at home and you’ll get the same steaming goodness for only 65 calories.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brewed hot coffee
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Preparation

Combine the vanilla and milk in a small bowl and microwave until very hot, about 50 seconds.

Pour the vanilla-milk mixture into a mug (see note below) with brewed hot coffee and stir in sugar and pumpkin pie spice.

Note: If you enjoy a foam finish, save a few tablespoons (about 3) of the hot vanilla-milk mixture and whisk for about 1 minute until foamy. Pour on top of your latte.
