Chef notes

This knock-out dessert delivers a one-two punch with only 5 ingredients. It also doubles as a super–deluxe breakfast. Substitute the bananas with pineapple and the Nutella with dulce de leche for an awesome variation!

Ingredients

  • 2 croissants
  • 1/4 cup Nutella or other hazelnut chocolate spread
  • 2 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 firm but ripe banana, sliced diagonally
  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar

Preparation

1.

Preheat the broiler. Split the croissants in half and toast, cut sides up until golden, about 2 minutes. Spread the Nutella on the toasted sides.

2.

In a medium nonstick skillet, cook the bacon over moderately high heat until crispy, about 7 minutes. Drain on paper towels and break each in half. Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon fat and add the bananas and sugar. Cook turning once, until caramelized all over, about 2 minutes. Arrange the bananas on the bottom halves of the croissants and top with bacon. Close the croissants and serve right away.
