Last week, hip-hop hopeful Astro landed in the bottom two on “X Factor,” and as viewers know, he didn’t take the news very well.
First, Astro delivered a half-hearted performance for his save-me song after he found himself in last place alongside Stacy Francis. Then, in a move that left the audience booing, he told the panel, “I don't want to perform for people who don't want me here.”
Astro’s on-show mentor, L.A. Reid, called for the rapper to apologize. The wannabe star later took to his Facebook page to do just that.
“What I do, I do for the love of Hip-Hop and my fans, and I would never do anything to hurt either,” he wrote. “But please try to understand where my head was (Thursday night).”
In an effort to help fans do just that, the 15-year-old went on to explain that he was under the impression he was being mistreated, and his thoughts turned to boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
“Muhammad Ali was hated by America when he didn't enter the draft,” Astro continued. “What people didn't know was that he would have entered if the recruiter would have addressed him by his new name. I believed I was being mistreated, and in the moment I thought about Ali's moment. I want to be the new ambassador for Hip-Hop and a leader of a new young movement of positive kids, but to be that I must have Integrity and Honor first! People are saying I'm ‘cocky’ and ‘arrogant,’ well maybe I have watched too many Muhammad Ali films or maybe I grew up having to fight my way home every day or battle on street corners of Brooklyn for respect. My guards are always up, and maybe I took the situation too heavy.”
In the end, after all the explaining, Astro just wanted to make one thing clear — he’s now sorry for his actions.
“I seriously apologize to my fans,” he wrote. “What I said and my emotions weren't directed toward you. I'm 15 and I think I know everything, but the truth is, I don't, and I handled the situation wrong! Win or lose next week, I will make you all proud!”
