It's hard to imagine that someone could tell the story of "Sesame Street" in only a few minutes. The show has educated generations of children through its beloved characters, guest stars and many famous parodies, earning more than 100 Emmys (and more than 200 nominations) in the process.

But thanks to Fast Company, we can indeed check out 45 years of "Sesame Street" in just three minutes.

The video, part of Fast Company's "Brand Evolution" series, highlighting the evolution of brands, is filled with fun facts about the historic show. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Producers wanted to call the show "123 Avenue B" or "Fun Street."
  • Oscar the Grouch was originally orange! But while the show was still in its first season, Oscar went on vacation in the "Swamp Mushy Muddy," turned green and has been that way ever since.
  • The show's diverse cast was so rare on television that the show was banned in Mississippi for a period of time in the 70s.
  • The first HIV-positive puppet, Kami, was introduced to teach children about HIV and AIDS in South Africa.
