Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres imagine 'Toy Story'/'Finding Dory' mashup

We know this: It would be a blockbuster. See what Tom Hanks and Ellen DeGeneres envision in a matchup of their Pixar alter egos.

Memo to Pixar: Jump on this idea!

At first it seemed like another zany "Ellen" moment, but now we're wondering if Tom Hanks and Ellen DeGeneres are on to something.

On the talk show earlier today, the stars discussed what it's like voicing their famous cartoon alter egos — and we think they struck what could be box-office gold.

In the clip, the pair improvises a scene in which Hanks' Woody (from the "Toy Story" franchise) tries to help get Dory (of "Finding Nemo" and "Finding Dory") back home, while Dory aims to help Woody find his hat.

In classic Dory fashion, the scene ends with the fish forgetting who Woody is.

Hanks has been getting back into character as Woody, the heroic cowboy doll, for "Toy Story 4," while DeGeneres reprised her role as Dory, the forgetful fish, in this summer's "Nemo" sequel.

In the video, Hanks describes the imagined meeting of their two characters as a "Pixar-off" (the computer animation studio produced the films).

He encourages the in-studio audience along with anyone watching at home to close their eyes and be transported to "Pixar-land," which we can only imagine is a the most magical place of all time.

But it's not all fun and games playing a beloved cartoon character.

Hanks told DeGeneres, "My diaphragm is always exhausted after those four-hour, five-hour recording sessions." DeGeneres also shared that she always seems to be hyperventilating while recording the voice of Dory.

And we love them for it. (Here's to "When Woody Met Dory," 2018?)
