Don't believe what you may have heard: Tom Cruise at 50 is still as secretive as ever about his relationship with ex-wife Katie Holmes.

Numerousmedia outlets seized on an interview the star gave to German TV network ProSieben. American publications then reported that Cruise said in the interview that he "did not expect" Holmes to file for divorce. The reports attributed remarks to Cruise that seemed to refer to the split.

"Life is a challenge," Cruise was quoted as saying. "To be 50 and have experiences and think you have everything under control, and then it hits you — that's what life is. ... Life is tragicomic. You need a certain sense of humor."

But a representative for the actor says Cruise's words were taken out of context.

"It was an hour interview and some answers were in response to other questions," Amanda Lundberg told TODAY.com. "Others were made up entirely."

Specifically, Cruise did not talk about his divorce or say the "tragicomic" line. Steven Gaetjen, who did the interview, told People magazine that he never asked Cruise about Holmes or the divorce.

Cruise's new film, "Oblivion," opens April 19.
