Suri Cruise won’t be acting anytime soon

She might be cuddly and cute, but Suri Cruise won’t be providing the voice of the polar bear Knut in an animated film chronicling the iconic bear’s life.

She might be cuddly and cute, but Suri Cruise won’t be providing the voice of the polar bear Knut in an animated film chronicling the iconic bear’s life.

“Tom and Katie have no plans for Suri to begin an acting career,” a rep for the Cruise family said, despite producer Ash R. Shah’s announcement, “I want Suri Cruise to be the English voice of Knut.”

Even if Suri did get herself an agent and book the role, it’s not like she could contribute much at this stage in her life. “Suri doesn’t even speak in full sentences yet,” a Cruise family friend pointed out.

There’s also the matter of the Berlin Zoo giving the green light on such a production. Shah reportedly offered the zoo $5 million for the rights to Knut’s story. Heiner Klos, curator of Berlin Zoo, said, “I can confirm that we received the offer and that we are giving it due consideration. When we have come to a decision, then we will handle the matter discreetly.”

Britney to do cameo for cousinNot one to be deterred by her (in)famous cousins Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears, Alli Sims has put together a deal to star in her own reality show. Sims, who was once Britney’s assistant, is set to film a pilot that showcases her and her friends, In Touch Weekly reports.

“It’s going to be like a female version of ‘Entourage,’ but for real,” an insider told the mag without a hint of irony. You would think that Britney would be busy juggling motherhood, her custody battle and a fledgling relationship with a paparazzo, but word is she’s carved out some time to do a cameo for her cousin.

Weekend box office
I’ve really been enjoying this first week of 2008 because the way I see it, right now I exist in a world where I have a perfect prediction record. At the risk of throwing it all away, here’s what I’m thinking for what’s in store at the movies this weekend.

The big release is “Atonement,” which finally goes into wide distribution. Also on tap are “The Killing of John Lennon” and “One Missed Call,” which sports the tagline, “What will it sound like when you die?” Given that it seems a little early in the year to be contemplating death, and that “Alvin and the Chipmunks” is slowly gaining on “National Treasure,” I’m going to go with “Atonement” to take over the No. 1 slot come Monday.

This weekend in pop-culture historyTwo of my favorite (or at least memorable) events in pop culture have anniversaries this weekend. First up: Do you remember where you were Jan. 6, 1994? Nancy Kerrigan sure does.

She was on a skating rink innocently preparing for the Winter Olympics when rival Tonya Harding and her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly had Shane Stant club poor Kerrigan in the knees and sabotage her Olympic bid. Kerrigan cried a thousand tears and her “why me” wail was heard ‘round the world. The story has a happy ending: Kerrigan made it to the Olympics and scored a silver medal. Tonya Harding finished 8th and was later banned from competitive figure skating for life.

Next: If you’re going to split from your significant other on Jan. 7, you’ll be in good company. On this day three long years ago, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston announced to the world their magical union was over. At the time, they issued a statement that included, “We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another.” Sigh.
