Starship guitarist Mark Abrahamian died Sunday after suffering a heart attack following a concert performance in Nebraska. He was 46.

Starship made the announcement Monday on Twitter, writing “We are shocked and saddened at the sudden loss of our guitar player Mark Abrahamian. We will miss you, brother. Rest in peace, Mark.”

The group shared further on its Facebook page, posting: "Mark was a kind, thoughtful and innovative soul. He was also a friend and family member. Mark also happened to be one hell of a guitar player. We are devastated by the loss of our brother and just dealing with it the best we can."

Starship performed at the DeVent Center Sunday, opening for rock legends Survivor and Boston. After the performance, Abrahamian said he did not feel well and went to his dressing room, where he collapsed. He was then taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Associated Press reports.

Abrahamian had played with Starship since 2000, but the group's deep roots go back to Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship.

The band’s hits include “We Built This City” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”
