The new leading men of “Star Trek” have boldly gone to “Saturday Night Live.”

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, who play Captain James Kirk and Mr. Spock, respectively, in the new “Star Trek” film, were surprise guests on the “Weekend Update” segment of “SNL,” where they pleaded for longtime fans to see the franchise reboot.

“We understand that you are concerned about the way that we are handling your beloved franchise,” Quinto said. “Don’t worry, we’ve gone to great lengths to make sure this film fits in flawlessly with the established canon.”

The pair joked about “Trek” trivia that would be in the film before complaining about being harassed by fans.

“I’m getting angry calls in the middle of the night — at least I think they’re angry, I can’t understand them.” Pine said. “They’re either speaking Vulcan or Hebrew.”

As the two continued to share their frustrations, the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, walked on to the “Weekend Update” set and joined his fellow “Star Trek” film stars in the sketch.

“I’ve spent many years of my life among Trekkies — er, Trekkers,” Nimoy said, reassuring the young stars that the fans would come see it. “And they have been some of the best years of my life.”

“To not like it,” he added, “would make them d***heads.”

Luckily for the cast, “Star Trek” hasn’t had any trouble drawing in fans so far — the film earned $76.5 million at the box office over the weekend and currently has a 95% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, signifying near-universal critical acclaim.

In related news, the “Star Trek” men weren’t the only special guests on last night’s “SNL.” Jimmy Fallon also made a return as Barry Gibb, alongside host Justin Timberlake, who played Robin Gibb. Susan Sarandon also appeared in a digital short that found Timberlake and Andy Samberg reprising their “D*** In A Box” characters.
