Ready or not, Charlie Sheen is headed for TV screens again.
John Landgraf, president of FX Networks, announced today that Sheen's new project, "Anger Management," will air on cable network next summer. The sitcom is based on the 2003 Adam Sandler-Jack Nicholson film of the same name.
According to the press release, the network has ordered 10 episodes of "Anger Management." If it does well, FX will order another 90 episodes.
"We think that (producers) Bruce Helford, Joe Roth and Charlie Sheen have come up with a wonderful, hilarious vehicle for Charlie's acting talents — and a character we are very much looking forward to seeing him play," Landgraf said in a statement.
As reported earlier, the actor won't just be starring on the show -- he'll also have a significant ownership stake.
"I chose 'Anger Management' because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept," Sheen said in a statement when it was first announced in July that he would be working with Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury to bring the show to TV. "It also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth."
No word yet on what Sheen will be making on his new show. According to Forbes, for the period of May 2010 to May 2011, he was the highest paid actor on TV for his work on "Two and a Half Men." Sheen was fired from the hit CBS show after a public meltdown.
