For the third time in recent years, Rev. Al Sharpton says he turned down the chance to join “Dancing With the Stars." But the civil-rights activist doesn’t want anyone getting the wrong idea. He didn’t decline due to a lack of confidence. In fact, Sharpton’s certain that if his schedule allowed it, he would have won the ballroom bash.
“Yeah, I just turned them down again,” Sharpton told TMZ. “I mean, I enjoyed doing ‘Saturday Night Live’ years ago — I did my little James Brown thing — but you have to have your priorities. I’m working very hard on National Action Network, our civil-rights work and our education stuff. And there’s a difference in taking one night doing ‘Saturday Night Live’ and taking weeks doing ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ So I thought about it, but I took a pass.”
That means when next season’s selection of celebrity hoofers gather to compete, they can breathe a sigh of relief. After all, Sharpton knows his way around the dance floor.
“Oh, I’ve got moves now,” the 56-year-old said with a laugh. “I’d blow them out. There would be no chance for anybody to touch me. But I just don’t have the time.”
Whether or not Sharpton is worthy of the coveted mirror ball trophy may never be known, but a variety of videos back up his smooth moves claim.
