After gaining fame for regularly appearing in barely-there ensembles in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues and the pages of many Victoria’s Secret catalogs, Heidi Klum never expected to be told to cover up when lounging poolside. But that’s just what happened when the supermodel and “Project Runway” host took her top off in a public place.
On Thursday night’s “Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” Klum explained that in America, her no-tan-lines strategy just isn’t as welcome as it is overseas.
“I do have to say that I think (the general public is) more uptight here,” she admitted. “I got in trouble once, in Phoenix. I was laying by the pool — obviously I had no top on. I’m laying there sunbathing, and this guy comes over – a security guy. He says, ‘Ma’am, you have to put your top back on because we’re having complaints. People are complaining that you have no top on.’”
That was a development late night host Leno couldn’t understand.
“Who are the idiots who were complaining?” he asked.
Regardless of who had the problem, Klum played along and put her top back on — momentarily.
“I took it back off because I thought that was really ridiculous,” she said. “And then (security) came again. ‘Ma’am you really have to put your top back on, otherwise you’re going to be in trouble.’”
Reluctantly, she obeyed the rules.
