See, he's in love with Charlize Theron these days which means his earlier unions (to Madonna and Robin Wright) take a back seat.

When asked whether he'd go to the altar a third time, he said, "You say I've been married twice before, but I've been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today, so I wouldn't even consider a third marriage, I'd consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again. I mean, I like the tradition."

The actor was married to Madonna from 1985-89. His relationship with Wright began shortly after that split, and they wed in 1996, divorcing just last year.

"I'm very friendly with my first ex-wife," he added. "I would say that I'm on extremely good terms with the children I share with my second ex-wife."

As for potential No. 3 (or No. 1, depending on how you look at it), Penn is incredibly happy with his latest love (Theron is 39; Penn is 54), who he's been dating for over a year and who he directed in their new movie "The Last Face."

"I'm surprised to be in love," he said. "Lot of reasons. Fifty-three years old [when they met] plus finally beginning to figure out why you haven't been happy in a single relationship? It could seem too late."

He added, "To run into somebody now who you care about is a much passionate, deeper, truer and — God! — a much happier feeling. It's a lot more romantic and a lot more fulfilling to be in a relationship and to think you're a good person within it."

So, are wedding bells coming? "Yes, I'd get married again," said Penn. "I'm in love with a woman and home is where the heart is, right?"
