Ryan Gosling will show off his soft-shoe alongside Emma Stone on the big screen when his new song-and-dance drama "La La Land" opens in theaters, but you don't have to wait to get a sneak peek of his moves.

The star waltzed away with a different partner Wednesday night — Jimmy Kimmel.

Kimmel wasn't so sure of the steps, but he was definitely in good hands with Gosling.

"My forefinger and my thumb are going to start talking to your lower back," Gosling warned the host as he put his arm around him. "I need your lower back to just pay attention, all right?"

There was just one problem — Kimmel didn't seem to be paying attention to Gosling at all. Instead, he was looking at the audience.

"Stop the music!" the actor called out. "Who you lookin' at? Are you dancing with over there or are you dancing with me?"

Gosling told Kimmel the routine wasn't about their feet — a good waltz is all about a personal connection.

"I want to feel like the only person in the room," he urged. "All the (other) people are boring. The world melts away, and it's just you and I!"

That's when the dance-floor magic really happened.
