As member of a musical dynasty, Rebbie Jackson is no stranger to the stage. But the latest tour for the eldest Jackson sibling is unlike any she’s done before. The “Pick Up the Phone” tour isn’t just about the music — it’s about saving lives.

During a TODAY interview, Jackson revealed her hope to heighten awareness about mental illness and suicide prevention. It’s a cause with a personal connection for the singer.

"My daughter has that problem. She's bipolar."

Jackson’s daughter, Yashi Brown, has long struggled with feelings of depression and hopelessness. With the tour, Jackson plans to help others like Brown lift the stigma associated with mental illness.

“There's a secrecy about it,” Jackson explained. “Hush-hush. Sweep it under the carpet so to speak.”
