Plastic surgery competition 'The Swan' to return with celebrity special
It's back -- or at least it will be soon! One of reality TV's most controversial competitions, Fox's 2004 plastic surgery-filled show, "The Swan," will return for an all-new special. And this time the "ugly ducklings" will have familiar faces … well, at first.
The original show, which aired for just two seasons, recruited women who were unhappy with their looks for a chance to bring out their inner swans. With the help of a number of specialists, including plastic surgeons, dentists and personal trainers, they received major makeovers. The then-barely-recognizable participants went on to compete in a pageant against their fellow transformed contestants. Eventually, just one winning swan emerged.
In the upcoming reboot, celebrities will be the ones getting the major makeovers.
"'Celebrity Swan' will feature female celebrities and will offer these popular women the incredible opportunity to undergo physical, psychological and career changes as cameras follow them through the transformative process," read an official show summary published by Entertainment Weekly. "This opportunity will allow these women to come back better than ever, have a second chance at personal and career redemption and re-introduce themselves to their supportive fans in a whole new way."
Casting is said to be underway, though Fox hasn't announced any confirmed celebs just yet. Deadline names "Happy Days" star Erin Moran and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky as possible participants.
According to Deadline, the special will run two hours and air later this year.
