In the middle of Sunday night's "Walking Dead" season finale, viewers were reminded that zombies aren't the only thing that can take over the planet. There are some super-smart apes on the way, and now they can ride horseback.

The new TV ad for "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" aired while Rick, Daryl and crew were making their way to Terminus, and it appears that the ape army would be just fine in our electricity-free world of zombie walkers.

"You know the scary thing about 'em?" a voiceover says as the apes are revealed. "They don't need power. Lights. Heat. Nothing. That's their advantage. That's what makes 'em stronger."

The film is a sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which restarted the popular "Apes" franchise in 2011. Andy Serkis, the king of motion-capture roles (Gollum in "Lord of the Rings," "King Kong" in the 2005 film) returns as ape leader Caesar. Gary Oldman, Jason Clark and Keri Russell also star.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" opens July 11.
