A new trailer for Natalie Portman's upcoming "Jackie" biopic was released on Monday, and it's chilling in its historical accuracy.

The trailer, which re-creates the grisly assassination of 35th president John F. Kennedy, features Oscar winner Portman wearing the same pink skirt suit and pillbox hat Jackie Kennedy wore on that fateful 1963 day in Dallas.

"People like to believe in fairy tales," says the Oscar winner in Kennedy's breathy voice. "I believe that the characters we read on the page end up being more real then the men who stand beside us."

Shots ring out and scenes flash onscreen of Kennedy huddled over her husband's limp body in the famous black convertible.

"I’ve grown accustomed to a great divide between what people believe and what I know to be real,” Portman says, as images of JFK's funeral flash on screen.

“There should be more horses, more soldiers … more crying, more cameras," she says as viewers see images of her dressed as Kennedy in her black widow's veil.

"I’m not the first lady anymore. I lost Jack somewhere," she says. "What was real? What was performance?”

The movie, directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain, focuses on the idyllic "Camelot" days Kennedy shared with the president and their two young children in the White House, but also also shines light on Jackie's life afterward, including her brief marriage to Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.

Critics have raved about Portman's performance, with many predicting she'll nab her third Oscar nomination for the role. The actress won an Oscar for her performance as a troubled ballerina in 2010's "Black Swan."

“Jackie” hits theaters on Dec. 2.

The screenplay for “Jackie” was written by Noah Oppenheim in 2010. In 2015, Oppenheim was named and remains the Executive-in-Charge of TODAY.
