Watching “Dancing With the Stars’ ” results show Tuesday was a bit like watching “The Karate Kid” all over again.

Despite a badly injured leg, Daniel LaRusso… er, Ralph Macchio … took his crane stance once again and knocked competitor Romeo out of the running for the coveted mirror ball trophy, leaving a look of complete shock on judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s face. But this time, the (temporary) victory wasn’t based on the performance. It was all about the fan base.

Macchio earned only a 46 out of 60 points Monday night, while Romeo scored a 52. Neither was close to the top of the leaderboard, but only one really danced -- and it wasn’t Macchio. Not that it was his fault he was in so much pain, but hey, this is supposed to be a dance competition! (Yes, I know. Popularity contest, yada yada yada.) Let’s just hope that another week in the ballroom won’t lead to a permanent injury to his already hurting leg.

As for Romeo’s exit, he left with an inspiring speech as the audience gave him a standing ovation. “This show has changed my life forever. I was terrified of dancing. I didn’t dance at my own prom,” he revealed. “I think I showed kids anything is possible. ... Fall on your face a few times!”

But as usual, it wasn’t all serious business on elimination night. Season 11 contestant Michael Bolton returned once again to perform, though not on the dance floor (fortunately). Those who were hoping for more fireworks between the move-challenged singer and animated judge Bruno Tonioli were left disappointed, as the two once again had no contact.

The highlight of the night? DanceCenter! (That segment is filler you won’t hear me complain about.) Judge Len Goodman, Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice expounded on the remaining contestants’ strengths … or in Mayne’s and Rice’s case, poked fun at them. The best? Rice goofing on pro hoofer Maks Chmerkovskiy’s “sex on a stick” comment from earlier in the season by dipping a photo of himself on a stick into a jar marked “sex” and taking a taste.  Can we get more bloopers for these guys to make fun of, please?

Next week, the final four head into the semifinals and will have to perform three dances each.

Will Macchio be able to handle three performances on an injured leg? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page!
