Rosie O'Donnell's recent comments about having "a mild fear or anxiety around little people" are the kind of sentiments that make Amy Rolloff, one of the stars of TLC's "Little People, Big World," sad.
On Thursday, Amy told TODAY's Willie Geist that sort talk "plays on you. I was taken back. I was sad really to hear that from someone."
After all, she, husband Matt and their four children spent six seasons on the air hoping to dispel such prejudices. "We think we've made a lot of progress, and then we saw some stuff the other day and thought, 'Gosh, we still have a lot of work to do,'" said Matt.
Maybe that's why their show, which has been off the air since 2010, is back for a series of four specials.
Having the cameras back around has been a challenge at times for the couple. They find it odd to watch emotional events play out on television months after they've occurred.
"The hardest thing about being on reality TV is when we see these episodes, for us that happened a little bit ago.... It's like, 'Are we reliving this again?'" said Amy. "We're over it, we're past it.... Should I still be mad? Should I still be angry? Should I still be happy?"
The couple will be celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and noted that some of their marriage ups and downs did get an airing during the show. But as Amy says now, "I think in the long run, we're doing great."
"Little People, Big World" airs Sunday, Feb. 19 at 8:00 p.m. on TLC.
