It didn't take elaborate choreography or a crazy costume for Lady Gaga to wow the audience at Sunday night's Oscars. All she needed was her stunning voice and a classic set of songs.

Backed by a string section while wearing an elegant white dress, Gaga helped celebrate the 50th anniversary of "The Sound of Music" in memorable fashion, nailing every note of a medley of songs from the film and musical that included "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "Edelweiss," and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain."

Following her performance, she earned a heartfelt hug from Julie Andrews, the star of the original "Sound of Music,'' who said the tribute "warmed my heart."

"There should be an Oscar for performance at the Oscars because that was beautiful, and it's not easy to pull off,'' Savannah Guthrie said on TODAY Monday.

"So much of her persona is distracted with the costumes, and then you get to hear her voice in its purity, and oh, wow,'' Tamron Hall added.
