Monday was a big day for actress Kate Winslet — one she's been looking forward to for quite a while: She turned 40!

When she visited TODAY in June, she could hardly wait for the landmark birthday, saying, "Growing older, for me at least, is really empowering and not in any way daunting."

So did she still feel that way when her birthday finally rolled around? Winslet stopped by TODAY Wednesday and got frank about turning 40.

"I sort of feel like I've been preparing to be 40," she said. "I was kind of building up to that moment. I wanted to go rocketing to 40, and when I got to that day on Monday, I really did feel pretty triumphant and calm and happy."

In other words, it was just what she hoped for.

"Yeah, it's a good place to be," she added. "I got there and sort of thought, 'Oh, my God! I did it."

And that's not all she's done. Winslet landed a key role in the new "Steve Jobs" biopic, as Jobs' right-hand woman, Joanna Hoffman.
