Late night hosts keep John Travolta jokes going

John Travolta's flub of Idina Menzel's name on Oscar night was just too good for late night's jokesters to miss, and it turns out that "Tonight" host Jimmy Fallon and "Conan" host Conan O'Brien were an example of great minds thinking alike on Monday."Welcome to the 'Tonight Show!' I'm your host, Jimmy Fallon, or as John Travolta would call me, Jelan Fejallah," Fallon said as he kicked off his show

John Travolta's flub of Idina Menzel's name on Oscar night was just too good for late night's jokesters to miss, and it turns out that "Tonight" host Jimmy Fallon and "Conan" host Conan O'Brien were an example of great minds thinking alike on Monday.

"Welcome to the 'Tonight Show!' I'm your host, Jimmy Fallon, or as John Travolta would call me, Jelan Fejallah," Fallon said as he kicked off his show on Monday night. "I actually feel bad for our pal John Travolta ... you could tell as he was saying it he was like, 'Oh, no, this is not going to come out right at all. I'm just (going to) say sounds.'"

And, he added, when Menzel heard it, "She was like, 'Let it go ... let it go.'" (That being a shout-out to Menzel's Oscar-winning song from "Frozen.")

It was a particularly timely joke, since Menzel appeared on the show Monday singing "Let it Go" with the Fallon and the Roots playing classroom instruments.

Meanwhile, O'Brien also launched his program with a similar quip: "Thank you for tuning in. I'm Conan O'Brien, or, as John Travolta calls me, Kevin Ozeem."

Jimmy Kimmel had already addressed the botched name on his special post-Oscars show on Sunday, when he talked about the incident with guest Kevin Spacey.

Menzel may have "let it go," but that doesn't mean the internet has. Slate wants to ensure readers get the full Travolta treatment, and has created the Adele Dazeem Name Generator to assist. Anyone can now enter his or her name Slate's widget and, as the website puts it, "Travoltify" it. The resulting name is the way the actor might say it on a live Oscar broadcast.

The TODAY crew, led by Christian Deeza (that would be Carson Daly) had a chuckle over it on Tuesday. Their translated names became Mia Palmzer (Matt Lauer), Samantha Granite (Savannah Guthrie), Ali Reezppo (Al Roker) and Nathaniel Mozaleen (Natalie Morales).

For reference, the Generator calls Jimmy Fallon "Joey Wailson," and Conan O'Brien "Carson Orteez."

"Dazeem's" Twitter account, set up on Oscar night, has not commented on the name generator.

That said, Daly was understanding of Travolta's goof: "By the way, that happens to all of us," he noted.
