Jimmy Fallon has certainly found success manning the desk as host of the "Tonight Show." In a new cover story in Men's Journal magazine, the comic shares seven rules for making it to the top.

No. 1 on the list: Start young. Fallon's father would tape "Saturday Night Live." and Jimmy and his sister, Gloria, would act out such skits as "Two Wild and Crazy Guys." The effort paid off, obviously, as Fallon went on to star on the comedy sketch show before moving on to late-night talk.

Other items on the list include show some respect, shut up and listen, don't hold grudges, and drink with the boss.

"Most people in show business think they know everything," former "Tonight" host Jay Leno told the magazine. "They don't really listen to the other person. They just wait for the other person to stop talking. Respectful is the best word I can use for Jimmy."

The November issue of Men's Journal is on newsstands now. "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" airs weeknights on NBC at 11:35 p.m.
