Jennifer Lawrence, pop star? 'Mockingjay Part 1' tune poised to hit Top 40

Jennifer Lawrence may think she sounds like a "deer that's been caught in a fence" when she sings (we don't agree), but maybe that particular sound is what people are yearning for — because she's all set to hit the Billboard Top 40 with a tune from the "Mockingjay Part 1" soundtrack later this week.

On Saturday, Billboard reported that industry forecasters were predicting the Oscar winner's rendition of "The Hanging Tree," the rebel fight song featured in the film, would sell over 150,000 downloads in the U.S. for the week ending Nov. 30.

Lawrence doesn't appear in the Billboard's Top 100 for the week ending Dec. 6, but the movie's soundtrack has cracked the Top 20 and "Tree" has broken into the Top 20 in both the U.K. and Australia

"Hanging Tree" was written by "Hunger Games" author Suzanne Collins with The Lumineers' Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz. Katniss (Lawrence) sings the tune in the film (which the actress said was an "awful" day on set when she visited "Late Show" in November). The song performance is credited to James Newton Howard featuring Lawrence.

The new Top 10 chart will be revealed on Wednesday,Dec. 3. Here's hoping Katniss — er, Lawrence — makes a splash! After all, the odds are ever in her favor.
