Country singer Jason Aldean's tour bus hit and killed a man Monday morning in Indiana, Knox County Sheriff Michael Morris tells NBC News.

The man, Albert Kennedy of Vincennes, Ind., was born in 1963, the sheriff's office said, making him either 49 or 50.

Details as to why Kennedy was walking in the roadway on U.S. Highway 41, six miles outside of Vincennes, have not been released. He was pronounced dead at the scene with massive head and chest injuries. The accident happened at about 1:30 a.m.

Aldean released a statement on Facebook and Twitter expressing sorrow over the incident and noting that he was praying for Kennedy's family and friends.

The Grammy-winning singer, 36, was on the bus at the time.

On Friday, Aldean held his eighth annual Concert for the Cure in New Orleans, raising more than $575,000 for the Susan G. Komen breast-cancer advocacy organization. He was scheduled to perform Saturday night in Dallas, but lightning storms forced the cancellation of that concert.
