CBS and Warner Bros. Television announced Friday that Ashton Kutcher will join the cast of "Two and a Half Men" next season, replacing Charlie Sheen.

"I can't wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers' homes," said Kutcher in a press release.  "I can't replace Charlie Sheen but I'm going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!"

As you could have guessed, Charlie Sheen himself wasn't silent on the matter, telling TMZ that the show's ratings would fall with Kutcher, and warning the actor "Enjoy planet Chuck (Lorre, the show's creator), Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there."

Lorre himself expressed only positive sentiments, saying "We are so lucky to have someone as talented, joyful and just plain remarkable as Ashton joining our family. Added to that is the deep sigh of relief knowing that our family stays together.  If I was any happier, it'd be illegal."

Kutcher won't be playing Sheen's character, Charlie Harper. Sources told THR that Lorre has come up with a way to introduce Kutcher's character that will satisfy CBS and Warner Bros. Inside word from those close to the show also indicates that the sitcom is heading into production ASAP.

"Ashton Kutcher brings a new and distinctive comedic flavor to 'Two and a Half Men,'" said Peter Roth, President, Warner Bros. Television, in a statement.  "He is a big-time talent whose unique style will blend seamlessly with Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones and the rest of this terrific ensemble.  We look forward to a great future for this revamped and re-energized show, helmed as always by the extraordinary Chuck Lorre, whose creative skills and consummate professionalism make him the best in the business."

The 33-year-old actor first gained fame as Michael Kelso on the hit comedy series, "That 70's Show," which aired for eight seasons. He has gone on to star in several big screen features as well, including "No Strings Attached" with Natalie Portman, "What Happens in Vegas" opposite Cameron Diaz and "The Guardian" with Kevin Costner. His next film, "New Year's Eve," is set to open in December.

Kutcher, who is married to actress Demi Moore, is also a producer. He served as co-creator and producer of MTV's hit series "Punk'd," and the CW's reality series "Beauty and the Geek."
