Hoda: They should name royal baby Michael!
It's a boy, it's a boy, it's a boy. But will it be a James, James, James? Hoda doesn't think so.
After eleven hours of labor, Duchess Kate gave birth to an 8-pound, 6-ounce royal baby boy yesterday afternoon and the world is still celebrating. Hoda Kotb and guest co-host Carson Daly got in on the action by beginning The Fourth Hour in a blaze of trumpets, confetti, and Bloody Marys, before jumping right in to baby name predictions.
“We don't know the name yet. What's your guess for the name?” Hoda said, once again in a betting mood with Carson.
Carson played it coy: “I think the odds-on, Vegas favorite is James. But I don't know anything more.”
“I'm going to go with Michael,” Hoda offered. “Michael is...”
“Michael!” Carson interrupted. “That's the least royal name of all time. I'm going to go with it's definitely not going to be Mike.” Then, to further illustrate his point, Carson added, “Oh, here's the heir to the throne. His name's Mike!”
“Michael is Kate's dad's name,” Hoda defended, though she was laughing too much to really make her point.
“James. George. The deal with the name is this,” Carson said, “all this speculation about the name—they're just going to string them all together. So it'll be George James Alexander. Maybe they'll throw Spencer in there, which would be a nice homage for Di's side.”
And just like that, Hoda let go of Mike. “Oh, I like that,” she said.
