There's a new Sarah Connor in town, and she's got dragons. OK, maybe not, but Paramount Pictures has confirmed to The Los Angeles Times that "Game of Thrones" dragon-wrangler Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) has been cast as the warrior woman in the reboot of the "Terminator" movie series.

The role was originated by Linda Hamilton in 1984's "The Teminator," a part she reprised in the 1991 sequel "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."

Clarke is best known as the exiled princess and Mother of Dragons on the HBO fantasy series. Her character has proved to be a formidable presence onscreen, transforming from an innocent girl to a leader of thousands.

Clarke could even get some help for the role from fellow "Game of Thrones" star Lena Headey, who plays Queen Cersei. The latter portrayed Connor on Fox's short-lived drama "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" from 2008 to 2009.

The new film will be the fifth in the franchise, but the first in a stand-alone trilogy, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Sarah Connor is a solid role for a female actor. Hamilton's portrayal was considered groundbreaking for showing a tough, fighting female in films at a time when they were few and far between.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Jason Clarke (no relation) is reportedly in talks to play rebel leader John Connor. Arnold Schwartzenegger, the original Terminator, has been rumored to return. The film, tentatively titled "Terminator: Genesis," is set for a June 26, 2015, release.
