According to the sheriff's office, Apple's tour bus came through a border-patrol checkpoint Wednesday night at 8 p.m. CT. During a routine citizenship check, a border-patrol canine detected the presence of controlled substances and the dog found hashish and marijuana in a blue backpack.

Apple admitted the substances were hers, and was taken to jail Wednesday night.

A concert Apple was scheduled to play Thursday night at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, has been postponed. A theater spokeswoman told TODAY.com she expects to announce the new date within 24 hours.

The hashtag #FreeFiona started trending on Twitter Thursday afternoon, with fans showing support for the singer.

"So what jail are we all mailing apples to again?" wrote Maura Johnston.

Others felt Apple should have known better. Wrote Baeblemusic, "Is anyone else confused by all the #freefiona battle cries? She broke the law, it's not like she's being wrongfully occupied by China."

Apple is far from the only singer to spend time in the Hudspeth County Jail for drug charges. The Huffington Post reports that Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and actor Armie Hammer are among those who have been arrested at a nearby border-patrol checkpoint. According to the Huffington Post, "drug-sniffing dogs inspect more than 17,000 trucks, travelers and tour buses daily" at the checkpoint.

At least one Twitter fan felt the region's reputation should have preceded it. Tweeted Jason Cohen, "Don't they teach people about Sierra Blanca at road manager school?"
