Thirty years ago, a teenager skipped school and a legend was born in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." And this weekend, Chicago (the town Ferris and his pals spent their day exploring) celebrated that three-decade anniversary in glorious fashion.
As you may remember, Ferris (played in irrepressible fashion by Matthew Broderick) convinces his parents to let him miss school due to illness, then springs his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) and girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) to come along for the ride.

And we do mean ride: Ferris also liberates Cameron's dad's Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder to provide the wheels for the day.
So for the 30th anniversary, organizers of Ferris Fest got the whole city of Chicago into the game and coordinated three days of events that allowed guests to walk in Ferris' footsteps through the Art Institute, Cameron's house and Wrigley Field — and of course in a delightful re-creation of Ferris singing "Twist and Shout" on top of a float at Daley Plaza on Sunday.

As the TODAY team mused about the Ferris festivities, one anchor made her fandom known. Dylan Dreyer acknowledged 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' is a movie she can quote from beginning to end, and proved it by reciting a monologue from the film!
As Ferris himself said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you'll miss it." Clearly, fans of the film from Chicago to Studio 1A took that to heart!
