In the summer of 2012, it was Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," spawning hundreds of parody videos.
Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" took over summer 2013, spending 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Which tune will become summer 2014's "song of summer?" The bar is pretty high, but the new class is up to the task.
Like "Blurred Lines," some of the tracks already making waves feature high-caliber collaborations. Michael Jackson's posthumous "Love Never Felt So Good," featuring Justin Timberlake, has more than 3 million hits on YouTube in just two days.
Iggy Azalea has worked her way into two of the summer's top songs already, once with her own hit-single "Fancy," which is currently number one on the Spotify charts. Azalea also joins Ariana Grande on "Problem," which happens to be number two.
On the rise is "La La La," British DJ Naughty Boy's unique collaboration with Sam Smith, which has been streamed nearly 87 million times globally.
And Calvin Harris' appropriately titled "Summer" is a contender, as is Clean Bandit's "Rather Be," which has already been streamed nearly 100 million times on Spotify.
