Elizabeth Edwards is a guest on an episode of "The Nate Berkus Show" airing Friday. When the appearance was first announced it seemed like an odd booking choice for the Oprah protégé. As it turns out, there is a connection: Edwards' new career is that of a furniture shop owner.

"Having bought furniture for my own house, and bought furniture for our house in Washington, a furniture store seemed like a good idea and it also played into my personal history," Edwards told Berkus. Edwards' mother had a charity store in the 1950s, and she said her store is a tie between her past and future. But, "this is a different life. It’s unlike anything I’ve lived before," Edwards said. "I was first going to teach literature and didn’t do that. Became a lawyer and did that for 17 years. Then I was sort of an at-home mother for a while, and then a political wife. So now, this is the next phase and it belongs to me. It doesn’t belong to any of those things in the past." Edwards also discussed whether she'd forgiven John for his indiscretions. "Forgiveness is a hard word because I don’t know that I know everything yet ... I may never know what really happened in my life, so it’s really hard to use a word like forgiveness but we found a new way of interacting with one another that is healthy -- healthy for the kids -- and really easy for us."
