Jada Pinkett Smith still hasn't answered the question of whether she and Will Smith have an open marriage. Then again, maybe she has?
In a recent post to her Facebook page, Jada, 41, laid out a little bit more of her marriage philosophy. Once again, she didn't directly confirm or deny whether she and Will see other people. But for somebody who can't give a simple "yes" or "no," she sure has a lot to say!
"Let me first say this, there are far more important things to talk about in regards to what is happening in the world than whether I have an open marriage or not," Jada begins. "...The statement I made in regard to, 'Will can do whatever he wants,' has illuminated the need to discuss the relationship between trust and love and how they co-exist."
Earlier this month, as you may recall, Jada gave a long-winded response to an interviewer about her arrangement with Will. "I've always told Will, 'you can do whatever you want as long as you can look yourself in the mirror and be okay,'" she explained.
In the Facebook post, she elaborates on that idea, hinting that monogamy is an unrealistic goal for a long-term relationship.
"Do we believe loving someone means owning them?" she asks. "Do we believe that ownership is the reason someone should 'behave'? ...What of unconditional love? Or does love look like, feel like, and operate as enslavement?... Should we be married to individuals who can not be responsible for themselves and their families within their freedom?"
In the end, Jada revises her official statement to this: "Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship...this means we have a GROWN one."
Okay, they have a "grown" relationship. Check. And this is different from an open relationship... how? Seems like if Will and Jada were monogamous, they'd just issue a straightforward "no" on open marriage, which neither of them has ever done.
Whatever they're doing, it seems to be working; they've been married 15 years, and Jada is obviously proud of the marriage. So why not just come out and say that it's an open marriage? Why the elaborate dance? Sure, open marriage might be taboo, but Will and Jada aren't somebody's suburban neighbors; they're one of the most powerful couples in Hollywood. We already know that the normal rules don't apply to them!
