Despite a messy divorce in 2005 and an equally messy custody battle that stretched on long after, Denise Richards remains close to her at times tiger-blood-enriched ex, Charlie Sheen. On Tuesday, late night host Chelsea Handler had just one question about that — how?
After declaring Richards “the coolest ex-wife in the world,” the “Chelsea Lately” host quizzed the actress about how she makes it work with Sheen.
“I keep it about the kids,” Richards said, referring to daughters Sam, 7, and Lola, 6. “I think it’s important for them to see us get along.”
The other secret to her Sheen success?
“I learned to accept him for who he is,” she said. “I can’t change him. I’ve said this before. When he is off doing his thing, then obviously he doesn’t see the girls. So when he’s straight and good, we spend time with him.”
Those who’d like to spend more TV time with Richards can catch her in the Spike network’s “Blue Mountain State” on Wednesdays at 11 p.m. ET.
