Bad news for “Sonny With a Chance” fans — Sonny’s leaving the show behind.
Leading lady Demi Lovato has announced that she won’t be returning to the part-sitcom, part-sketch comedy show.
"It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music," the Disney Channel star told People magazine. "It's kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended, but there couldn't be a better time for me to move on."
But moving on from the hit show isn’t just about music. Lovato, who completed a three-month treatment program for “emotional and physical issues” in January, believes ditching “Sonny” is an important step for her well-being.
“I don't think going back to ‘Sonny’ would be healthy for my recovery,” the 18-year-old admitted. "Being in front of a camera would make me nervous."
Despite Lovato's departure, there is some good news for “Sonny With a Chance” fans. Sonny may have moved on, but the rest of the gang is sticking around. That’s right, the show isn’t exactly over.
The-show-within-the-show, otherwise known as “So Random!” will take over in June.
