The seventh season of the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” kicked off with a moving moment Tuesday night, as the crews gathered to say their final farewells to Phil Harris.

The 53-year-old crab boat captain suffered a fatal stroke during the series’ sixth season and following his wishes, his friends and fishing rivals sent his ashes out to sea.

“If those kids stick with crab fishing, you know, and stay on a decent boat and they learn something — yeah, I think that they’ll have a good life,” Harris’ voice aired over the emotional scene. “I mean, it was great for me.”

All of the boats in the fleet formed a circle and the crews looked on as Harris’ open urn was placed in a crab cage and lowered into the water. His fellow fishermen then wished Harris a safe journey and fired their guns to salute him.
