Gwyneth Paltrow keeps putting her designer shoe-clad foot in her mouth, it seems. The actress has taken some online battering, but she seems to have gone too far when she compared cyber-harassment to fighting in a war.
"You come across (online comments) about yourself and about your friends, and it’s a very dehumanizing thing," Paltrow said Monday at the Re/Code Code Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. "It’s almost like how, in war, you go through this bloody, dehumanizing thing, and then something is defined out of it."
Those who know the pain of real wars didn't find the comparison apt, including Cindy McCain, wife of Senator and former prisoner of war John McCain.
Paltrow specifically slammed Facebook in her talk. She said she's learned that the online abuse is "not really about you."
McCain isn't the only one who's scolded the "Shakespeare in Love" star recently. Back in March, Paltrow told E! that having an office job is easier than her movie-star lifestyle, and it wasn't only those with office jobs who reacted negatively.
Although Angelina Jolie doesn't mention Paltrow in her interview with the New York Daily News, many saw it as a direct response to the office-job remarks.
"I actually feel that women in my position, when we have all at our disposal to help us, shouldn’t complain," Jolie told the newspaper. "Consider all the people who really struggle and don’t have the financial means, don’t have the support, and many people are single raising children. That’s hard."
