Cinderella’s Castle was lit up more than usual this past weekend, and it wasn’t just for the Fourth of July.
Magic Kingdom visitors captured pictures and videos of lightning strikes over the iconic Walt Disney World attraction on Friday evening.
The storm passed through the Orlando, Florida, area around 7 p.m., as guests were waiting for Disney's renowned fireworks show to start.
The light show did begin once the electric thunderstorm passed. The 189-foot castle is the tallest structure in the park.
The lightning at the castle wasn’t all that surprised holiday visitors. Earlier in the afternoon, a 400-foot Ferris wheel called the Orlando Eye stopped for 45 minutes.
“All guests were safely evacuated,” Orange County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Kathleen Kennedy told the Associated Press. The 66 passengers were removed in about three hours.
