Check out Jewel with a perfect (fake) smile

Among the more endearing things about country singer Jewel is that her teeth are not of the perfect, day-glow white, Chiclet variety. Her crooked-tooth smile suits her perfectly (and even inspired a song, "I'm Not Gonna Fix My Teeth,"). So a recent tweet, posted while getting into character for her role as June Carter in the upcoming Lifetime film "The June Carter Cash Story," had us concerned.

"Here I am as June in my trailer with her blue eyes and perfect teeth #ringoffire," she wrote., FilmMagic /

Oh Jewel, say it isn't permanent!

Luckily, it's not. Her publicists confirmed to that the singer did not cross over to the dark side and what you see in the picture is just a prosthetic for the role. That said, while awaiting response it was hard not to be reminded of other successful women who've changed a "flawed" part only to never really look the same again.

Actress Jennifer Grey with her old nose, left, in 1989, and at "The Avengers" premiere on April 11.

After becoming famous in "Dirty Dancing," and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," Jennifer Grey had a nose job that some say perfected her face but ruined her career; Ashlee Simpson and Ashley Tisdale followed suit much later but to similar effect. None of those women ever saw the same level of success that they had before going under the knife.

So Jewel, good on you. Some "flaws" just aren't flaws at all.
