For Patrick House, winning “The Biggest Loser” is about more than losing 181 pounds or even gaining that hefty $250,000 grand prize. It’s about getting back a life that he was once sure was gone forever and having the opportunity to build a future he never imagined.

During an interview with Al Roker Wednesday morning on TODAY, the formerly unemployed family man shared his new enthusiasm for life.

“This is a really exciting time for me,” House said. “You know, getting laid off in January, early 2010 seemed pretty bleak for me and my family. But now, through ‘The Biggest Loser’ and getting my life back, I’ve got a great opportunity at Mindstream Academy, a school in South Carolina that I’m going to go work at. It’s for teenagers who are overweight; they can come in and get help. And to be there on the forefront, fighting the battle against childhood obesity in America, I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities I have.”

But before the father of two embraces the “The Biggest Loser’s” pay-it-forward theme with his new job, House needs to pay his good fortune forward in a different way.

“The first thing, when I get that (grand prize money), it’s going to go to paying my parents and my in-laws who I borrowed money from this whole year to get through,” House explained. “I know they were excited to see me win, too.”

Two other family members no doubt equally happy about House’s win were his young sons, Colton and Caden. Of course, at ages 2 and 4, they might not understand exactly what they’re cheering for, but their dad knows why it makes him so happy.

“Knowing now that I’ve changed my life and I’m going to be with them for so much longer, it’s just a surreal experience,” House said.
