'Biggest Loser' team crumbles after another shocking exit

"The Biggest Loser" has always been filled with highs and lows. Sometimes those swings are emotional ones felt by contestants struggling to change a lifetime of bad habits. Sometimes the ups and downs are just fluctuating numbers on the scale. And sometimes it's all of that and more.

That roller-coaster effect, in all its forms, is in full force this season.

For instance, last week, Jackson fully embodied the low end of the spectrum as he continued to lag on the red team. Frequent illness and exercise restrictions left him with less-than-ideal results on the scale. In fact, had his team not sent Cate packing, he would have been the obvious target.

But that was then.

Suddenly a new and improved Jackson was on the scene this week. When the trainers left the ranch go help the kid participants back home, it was Jackson who stepped into the unlikely role of team leader. He not only spurred his fellow Reds to perform their best, but he retired his puke pail and actually outperformed so-called athlete Joe in the gym.

If that wasn't enough, Jackson went above and beyond all expectations by really stepping up during a 5K run. He didn't win the race -- that honor went to Danni, who shared the $15,000 first-place prize with white teammate Pam -- but he came in sixth out of the remaining 11 players. Not a bad result for someone who required the help of an inhaler half-way through the effort.

Heck, by the time the trainers returned to the ranch, Dolvett Quince barely recognized the former back-of-the-packer.

"Jackson became me," a visibly surprised Dolvett said at the weigh-in.

"I've always been a ripped, bald, black guy on the inside," Jackson joked.

The reversal of fortune carried all the way to the scale, where Jackson followed up his meager 2-pound loss from last week with a remarkable 12-pound drop.

But while everything was coming up Jackson this week, the same couldn't be said for Pam.

Last week, she danced with delight on the scale after seeing her biggest success to date with a loss of 9 pounds. And sure, even this week started pretty great when she shared that impressive cash prize after the race, but her good mood soon came crashing down.

While Jackson's weigh-in helped keep the red team safe, when Pam was faced with the same opportunity to save her own dwindling team, she didn't fare as well.

Pam needed to drop more than 6 pounds to keep Team White safe, but she came up short. A loss of 3 pounds meant that her two-member team would soon be a team of one, and there was no need for a vote. With the lowest percentage of weight loss, her time was up.

"I worked really hard," Pam said when she saw the results. "I did the best I could. There's nothing more I could ask for."

Still, despite that low blow for herself and for Team ... Danni, Pam found a way to end on a high note.

"America, the next you see me, I'm going to be that Damn Girl, the one that the guys see when they walk down the street and they go, 'Daaamn, girl!' " she said with a smile. "I'm going to be that sexy, strong, confident woman I came here to become."

As Pam's where-are-they-now update proved, she's well on her way there.
