The theme for the current season of "The Biggest Loser" is "no more excuses," and this week, the contestants faced a classic excuse that many of us who pack extra pounds have no doubt dished up in the past: I can't lose weight on vacation.

To disprove the excuse, the gang left the ranch behind for a much more scenic and temptation-filled resort in Hawaii. Surrounded by tropical drinks, macadamia-nut treats and lounge chairs, the players had every opportunity to stray from their weight-loss goals. But they also had a couple of vacation companions the rest of us don't get during our outings -- trainers Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince.

Nice perks!

And if those motivational personalities weren't enough to keep the "Losers" in line, they also had a source of extra inspiration in the form of Bethany Hamilton, the surfing phenom and shark-attack survivor.

Before long Hamilton had the contestants catching waves -- small waves -- and at times, wiping out. Most importantly, she had them active and enjoying themselves.

At least most of them were enjoying themselves. Kim? Not so much. The odd-woman out where the "big alliance" is concerned, Kim grumbled about her isolation, especially after she was the first one knocked out of this week's immunity challenge.

In a Tiki battle, the contestants had to pile leis on the figures representing players they wanted to lose. After Kim was out of the way, Chris, Kimmy and Megan were next. Then it was down to the core alliance, Conda, Jeremy and Mark. (Buddy sat out due to his stress fracture.) The brother and sister let Mark almost knock them out before making short work of him. And then, in a repeat of last week's challenge, Jeremy handed the win to his sister.

'Biggest Loser' season 13 contestants

Meet the 20 contestants who are vying not only for the $250,000 grand prize, but to change their lives for the better.

Conda will go far as long as she has her brother to win her immunity and prizes along the way. And that's a point that must have finally occurred to ally Mark, who suddenly made a move to pal up to Kim after the challenge. He also let her know that he wouldn't vote for her when and if she was on the block. Interesting.

Also interesting were the results of this week's weigh-in. As it turns out, weight loss on vacation (with the aforementioned perks in place) is certainly doable. After all, every one of the "Losers" lost pounds.

But with the yellow line in play, two of them just didn't lose enough -- Kimmy, who shed two pounds and her daughter, Megan, who dropped three.

The pair said their goodbyes and shed a few tears when Kimmy was voted out, but it was nothing compared to the tears that flowed from Chris.

"She's become my best friend here," Chris wept before turning to her pal. "I just love you very much, Kimmy, and I'm going to miss you."

When did those two get so close? Looks like we'll never know now.

Are you surprised that the contestants sent Kimmy home rather than Megan, the bigger threat? And do you think Kim can stay in the game longer now that she has a maybe-ally in Mark? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.
